Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!! I just love Thanksgiving and how it officially becomes “the holidays” and bleeds right into Christmas. This time of year has everyone so cheery despite the fact that it is dark and cold outside. The holiday spirit keeps everyone going through this time and I just love that.
As I get older Thanksgiving becomes more meaningful and has value. It used to just be an excuse to have an awesome meal with the family and be lazy and watch football. But overtime, it has really been a holiday where I can reflect on everything I have and how thankful I really am. I am in a season where I am working on contentment and being present in the moment. To me, being content means appreciating and being thankful for the things that I have and that is something that I have to remind myself of every single day.
Our natural tendency is to want want want and to try and fill this gaping hole with things and stuff that are new and that other people have. But when we try to fill this hole with things and stuff we realize we still aren’t satisfied so it leads us to consuming more things and stuff and the cycle continues. When we finally realize that the only true satisfaction we have is when we have Jesus and the Holy Spirit in us that’s when change can take place and we can start to accept contentment. The wanting of things and stuff will never fully go away when we are on earth, it is part of being a sinful human, but I think that’s what will make being in heaven someday that much more special.
I like to imagine what heaven will be like. Part of what I imagine is having this total satisfaction and contentment all the time. Never again trying to chase after things we can’t have or afford. We will just be so intensely happy and satisfied that there will be no room to want anymore.
Until that day comes, I will have to keep practicing contentment and being so thankful for everything and everyone I have while I have it. To help remind me, I made this lock screen background for my phone and I thought I would share it with you! It is part of a verse from Ephesians 5.
In Ephesians 5 Paul is writing to the church of Ephesus where a lot of people had recently converted to Christianity. Paul is giving them a guide on what it means to behave like a Christian and how we are to be representatives of Him. A point Paul brings up a couple times in this chapter is always being thankful to God in everything.
” always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Paul has to tell us this because it isn’t first nature for us to behave that way. It is part of being a human to be selfish and unthankful. That’s why this is something that, even though I am always working on it, I will never master completely.
If you feel like you could use a little reminder of this regularly go ahead and grab this little gem. To get the freebie for your phone just head over to the Freebies page, make sure you are subscribed for access, then save to your phone! You will also get access to all of the other free stuff I have in the library, so, enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone ♥
