You might have noticed from my Instagram that I was recently in Big Sky, Montana on a ski/snowboard trip! There was a group of 12 of us who all chipped in on renting a house through Air bnb for four nights. It was a ski-in/ski-out so all we had to do was strap in and take off out the back door! We decided on road tripping there so we left Friday after work and were on the mountain skiing and snowboarding by the next morning.
Since we had such a big group we split off into groups of four in three different vehicles for the trip. Fortunately, I was in a vehicle with three boys so I got to skip out on driving altogether 😉 From the Twin Cities it took us about 15 hours to get to Big Sky. I had never spent any time in Montana but man, what a beaut. I have snowboarded in the mountains before but this was a whole other animal. The mountains were SO much bigger than in Colorado (my only other experience with snowboarding in mountains) which made the runs way longer and provided way more options. Big Sky also isn’t as easy to travel to as Colorado so it was so much less populated! I am all about being away from the crowds so this was perfect. An entire run to myself? Don’t mind if I do.
Big Sky has had a ton of snow this winter so everything was so powdery and fresh. We also got DUMPED on while we were there and it was a blast playing around in the fresh pow. We were on the mountain one day while the snow was coming down hard and none of the trails were groomed yet and it made for a pretty sweet powder day. If you fell it was like falling into a cloud. SO FUN! We went hard out on the mountain each day so by the time we came home we were exhausted. It was like having leg day for four days straight!
We took turns making meals for the group which went really well. I made a double batch of my chili recipe and stuck it in the crockpot so when people came in for a break it was hot and ready to go! We also had dinner as a group each night and only went into town once for a meal. At night we played tons of games, hung out in the hot tub, and just laughed and compared stories.
Overall, it was an awesome time away in mountains with really great people. Can’t wait to do it again!
